Frequently Asked Questions:
What is chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care is a natural, holistic, non-invasive health care. Chiropractors start with two main premises: that your body is perfectly designed to function and heal itself on every level and the nervous system controls all function in the body. When there is interference or imbalance in the nervous system, your body’s ability to function and heal itself becomes impaired. By removing interference to the nervous system, chiropractors help to restore your body’s natural ability to function and heal. Chiropractors most commonly remove this interference through specific spinal adjustments. Chiropractic care consisting of adjustments, nutritional advice, and lifestyle recommendations helps you to restore your body to optimal health.
Why go to a chiropractor?
Chiropractors treat more than just pain. While many people start seeing a chiropractor because of pain from accident or injury, most patients notice that many other things in their life begin to improve as well. Patients often notice improvements in stress levels, mood, attention, digestion, sleep, and energy. When the nervous system is balanced and free of interference the body is able to function at its highest potential.
What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is a very specific, quick, low force impulse in a precise direction given by the chiropractor on a joint in order to restore motion to the joint and balance the nervous system. Sometimes there is a popping sound that occurs with the adjustment. This is completely normal and nothing to be worried about. The noise is simply gas that is released in the joint during the adjustment.
I’ve heard that once you see a chiropractor, you have to go forever. Is that true?
No, this is not true. There are people who just come to the chiropractor when they have hurt themselves or are in pain and then stop going when they feel better. How often you go to the chiropractor is up to you. Many people notice that when they go to the chiropractor on a regular basis, however, they feel and function better.
Is it safe to treat children?
Yes. It is absolutely safe for children to receive chiropractic care. Chiropractors use specific very low force adjusting techniques to adjust children. I have personally adjusted many babies who were just a few hours old, including all of my own children.
Why would a child need to see a chiropractor?
It is common for parents to bring their newborn babies to be checked by a chiropractor to ensure optimal nervous system function. From birth to learning how to walk to playing sports, kids undergo a lot trauma to their little bodies as they grow. Any restrictions or misalignments of the spinal joints or any other interference to or imbalance of the nervous system can create many common issues seen with children such as colic, reflux, latch and nursing issues, tortocolis, trouble rolling over, trouble with crawling or walking, lack of coordination, attention problems, frequent colds and infections, asthma and allergies, etc. Chiropractic care has been shown to help a great deal with all of these issues. It is completely natural and completely safe and can help keep you from having to give your child medication that may have potentially harmful side effects.
Is it safe to treat expectant mothers?
Yes. It is very safe for expectant mothers to receive chiropractic care. Just like adjusting children, chiropractors are taught specific ways to adjust pregnant women. Regular adjustments during pregnancy can help reduce pain during pregnancy and labor, ensure that the uterus is relaxed so baby can find a perfect position for birth, decrease labor time, and decrease the need for interventions during labor.
